The ancient homeland of the MacNabs is centred upon the Perthshire town of Killin, stretching from there across the south side of Loch Tay and up Glen Dochart. Descended from a son of the Abbot MacAnaba, who was of the Celtic Church, the name means 'son of the abbot' and they shared a close association with St Fillan's monastery, near Loch Earn. Many were embroiled in bitter clan warfare, while others have gained distinction through more peaceful endeavours.
