The name Baird is thought to have Norman ancestry, and it was a Baird who rescued William the Lion, the Scots King who ruled from 1165 to 1214, from a wild boar. Scotland was home to many landowners, especially in Aberdeenshire and Lanarkshire. The most well-known member of the family was television inventor and Helensburgh native John Logie Baird.
